Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is Halal Street?

Halal Street is an online directory of halal restaurants, mosques, shops, and Muslim-friendly events across various cities worldwide, starting with Toronto, Canada. Our mission is to make it easier for Muslims living in or visiting non-Muslim countries to find reliable halal options and community resources.

2. Is Halal Street a halal certification body?

No. Halal Street is not a certifying body. We do not issue halal certificates. Instead, we gather and display halal-related information from public and community-contributed sources, such as:

  • Official business websites
  • Social media pages
  • Physical signage at the establishment
  • User reviews and reports

Since a restaurant’s halal status can change, we strongly recommend verifying directly with the establishment before dining, so you can make a choice that matches your personal comfort level.

3. How does Halal Street verify halal status?

We rely on traceable mentions of a business’s halal claims from reputable sources, as well as community and business owner contributions. However, ultimate verification is always up to you — especially if you follow specific halal guidelines (e.g., hand-slaughtered meat, alcohol-free venues).

4. I own a halal business, but it’s not listed. How can I add it?

If you own a halal-friendly restaurant, shop, or service and don’t see it on Halal Street, you can submit your listing here:

5. My business is already listed, but I want to manage it. What do I do?

If your business is already on Halal Street and you’d like to update or manage the details, click the “Claim Listing” button on your listing page and request verification. Once approved, you can edit your information anytime.

6. What do the tags mean on Halal Street?

We use clear tags so users can easily find places matching their preferences:

  • Fully Halal Menu – Everything on the menu is halal, including food, drinks, and desserts.
  • Partial Halal Menu – Halal options are available, but some menu items are non-halal.
  • Alcohol Served – The establishment serves alcoholic beverages.
  • Hand Slaughtered – Meat is sourced from suppliers who follow hand-slaughter practices.
  • Prayer Space – A designated area for prayer is available in the establishment or within walking distance.

7. How can I help keep listings accurate?

Halal Street thrives on community contributions. If you spot outdated or incorrect information, use the “Report” button on the listing page or contact us directly. Your updates help keep the directory accurate and useful for everyone.

8. Which cities does Halal Street cover?

We’re starting with Toronto, Canada, but will be expanding to other cities across the world. Our goal is to create the most comprehensive global halal directory — with your help.

9. Does Halal Street host events?

We list Muslim-friendly events happening in supported cities. If you’re hosting an event you’d like to share, you can submit it through our events page (coming soon).

10. Is Halal Street free to use?

Yes! Our platform is free for users to search and browse. Businesses can also submit their listings for free, though we may offer premium features in the future.

11. How often is the directory updated?

Listings are updated continuously as new submissions come in and as we verify changes. Because halal status can change at any time, we recommend confirming directly with the business before your visit.
